Acquiring backlinks

As much as we love on-site what about backlinks, do you have good ways of getting backlinks? Since I've worked in agency or inhouse our main thing is - well buying them :D now that I spend time on my side projects I'm not so willing to give away hundreds or even tens of dollar since I don't have an underlying product to sell.

Currently I'm thinking all the socials, profiles, directories, Setup some cloud stacks then moving to maybe trying out the HARO approach to answer questions on multiple platforms and see if this will work.

Also I'll add if you have some good methods for non english and more local websites please share aswell :D

Maybe you've found that some kind of outreach gets you a free mention :D since all of my outreaches for client websites involved agreeing on price, either for the backlink or for their "administration fees" :D

I think that you'll find that most SEOs won't share their successful backlink methods in public. The moment they become more popular is the moment they stop working.

Having said that, on the Fight Club podcast press releases are mentioned frequently. Cloudlinks too. Clint dropped a few nuggets in his show yesterday as well.

Yep heard a couple on this podcast, even if not disclosing them do you have ways successful ways of generating in content backlinks, I feel like everyone's aware that a link is valuable and don't want to give them without financial or other type of exchange. More so I guess in my native country websites, since for English you can easily find free guest post submissions.

Well you mentioned the
  • basic business branding approach of press releases, / HARO. Although because of the over-usage of HARO they have redesigned their methods.
There are other approaches each with nuance sites.
  • The Developer's approach is sharing source code.
  • The Photographer's approach is to share photographs
  • The Influencer's approach is content marketing and syndication and getting someone to buy coffee.
Kind of depends on what online neighborhood you want to be part of?

You mentioned
native country websites
that sounds like tourism and events create crowds and crowds create interest. Newspapers follow interest, and most have an events section.

The majority of the promoters who create the events lack an understanding of online marketing ... hence they create an underserved market and provide opportunities for sites like hotels and others to fill in the gap and put the events online.

You also mentioned
Free submissions.
Have you considered crowd-sourcing the photographers in your area? Giving them a decent portfolio profile page for them to link to?
