Crawl budget question inspired todays Fight Club

How does Google split up crawl budget for sub-domains of a site?

Does each sub-domain get it's own crawl budget or is crawl budget giving at the domain level?

Thanks!

Great question! I have no idea of the answer but . . .

If I had to guess I would say that each subdomain has its own crawl budget. Subdomains are treated as different sites by Google. Likely each subdomain has its own budget based on its size and history. For example LeesNewSite.tumblr.com is different than NatesCoolSite.tumblr.com and would be treated differently by Google.

Checked some subdomains that I have on search consoles and it would seem like they don't have massive crawl budget fluctuations, even when core domain website, had a lot of changes it didn't eat up the budget of subdomain, though the data sample of 2 is not much.

So I would stick to each subdomain having it's own crawl budget.
