Google AI Mode - Is this intended to replace traditional Google search?

Hi all,

Is the Google AI Mode intended to replace the traditional Google search?

I ask as it is a radical departure from what Google search has been for decades. Over the weekend, I started earnestly exploring the AI Mode of Google search. My observations were...interesting.

Knowing that nothing is set in stone, should I spend a great deal more time experimenting with AI Mode or are things still too much in flux for that to be a good time investment? Like everyone else, I have limited time and have to juggle where I spend what limited time I have.

I feel like the end value of chasing latest and greatest right now varies wildly by niche. My main client's niche has not seen any change, same players, same shuffle. But I have other clients who's niches have been affected greatly.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm definitely not looking to abandon what I am doing for a flash in the pan. But, it seems that Google is "all in" on AI and I'm curious to know if AI Mode is the vehicle the company is picking.

There are a lot of search results in my limited searching where the top sites in legacy search are absent in AI Mode, suggesting it has a different way of calculating things.

We tripled sales over past year with just old school organic but our customers are old and our competition is slow to change.

We bought some schemas from Daryl Osborne and changed names of things based on Ted's feedback, and our categories started showing up underneath in SERPs, we're appearing in AI panels, and also getting snippets. My guess on what that means is that if you are in a niche where the competition is very low tech you'll get great mileage out of a couple small tweaks. But if you are in a space that attracts top SEOs it's going to take a lot more time and effort. One of those low hanging fruit things.
